“A global sea level rise that makes gentle summer surf lap at a beachgoer’s knees rather than his or her ankles is one thing.” I loved that quote in this article. It does a great job putting the change into perspective. I’ve been thinking a lot about the big picture effects, but this is a small change that has a big effect.
Another important thing mentioned in this article is that the IPCC’s projections of sea level rise may be off. That’s not to say the ocean won’t rise, it means it may rise higher than expected. The best plan of action for many beaches is to work with the idea of that higher level in mind. Right now there isn’t a clear path to follow to protect beaches.
